NP United Soccer
Board Meeting
January 14, 2003, 7:00 p.m.
The meeting was called
to order by President, Phil Melangton. Present were: Jerry McClatchey,
Karla Kindrick, Jim Peters, Ali Basaran, Maria Harrison, Chris
Harrington, Amy Fistrivich, Joe Fistrovich, John Fox and Jean Aikman.
President: Phil. McDonalds has agreed to allow us to use its dining
room for registration. Trying to do promo with them. (Come in uniform
on Sat and receive a free fry or something).
Vice President: Maria. Travel is up and running. We will not have a
Trainer for Spring. February 28, 2003 is registration deadline. Tryout
dates will be set after State Cup - usually after the first weekend in
June. We currently have six boys' and two girls' indoor teams. All are
at Indy Indoor on the south side of Indianapolis.
Treasurer:. Received Dana Merrick's bill for last season for setting
referees. Still no By-Laws. Jean will try to get a copy of NPYL's and
e-mail them to Joe. We can modify to fit our needs. Federal tax ID #
was sent to Daily Reporter to get non-profit discount.
Secretary: Jean. No report at this time.
Team Rep. Coordinator: No report at this time.
Coaching Director: Jerry.
Summer Camp - We are going to have ProExcel July 14-18, 2003. We
currently have three of their coaches booked. If our numbers warrant
it, they will send more coaches. The cost is: $74 per player with a
$5.00 discount for additional children in a family ($69). Times: 9:30
a.m. - 12:30 p.m. for Team and 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. for Individuals.
Forms will be available at sign ups. All registered players will
receive a colored flyer in the mail from ProExcel with no cost to the
league. This will not be on the same week as the High School camp.
Soccer Parent Booklet - Sample of material was handed out. The cost
would be about $3-$5 each to the league. We can add pages to make it
NPUnited specific, ie. the by-laws. This would be a great way to
educate parents on the game of soccer, help with sportsmanlike
conduct, and give the league a way to introduce new people to the
league.

Uniform Committee Chairman: Rec. Jim. - Same prices available to us -
Jerseys - Youth $12, Adult $14; Shorts - Youth $6.95, Adults $7.95;
socks - $4. Three to four week delivery. Jim needs final count to
order on March 7 at the latest. Continue to give discount to Assistant
Coaches - if they wish to purchase t-shirts at concession trailer with
their discount, they may do so. Have gray men's sized t-shirts with NP
United logo on them available to purchase at the Coaches Meeting. Sell
the remainder at the concession trailer during the season.
Apparel Sale - Amy to get form to Jerry used for travel parents to
order NP United "stuff". Jerry to revise and have available at sign
ups for people to order t-shirts, sweatshirts, hooded sweatshirts and
duffel bags, etc. Jean will help out with ordering, sorting, etc. JOHN
- PLEASE ADVERTISE THIS ON THE WEB.
Field Maintenance: Chris. Need some new nets. Jerry and Chris to sort
out what is available, needed and get ordered. Only a one week order
time. Chris is open to suggestions to get parents involved in the
painting. Big pitch to the parents at the coaches meeting and the team
parent meeting. Clarify responsibility and process. Painting will be
done on Thursday or Friday only. This is especially important in the
Spring because it rains more often, the grass grows faster and needs
cut more often. THE LEAGUE WOULD LIKE ASSISTANCE IN GETTING THE GRASS
CUT IN BETWEEN THE CUTTINGS THAT THE SCHOOL DOES. We will purchase a
small Rubbermaid storage bin for the U6 fields to keep their own paint
in. Need two new paint rollers and more paint. Chris and Phil to get
with Jerry on purchases. The school seeded, aerated, fertilized. We
need extra fertilizer and seed in front of the goals.
Rec. League Coordinator: Ali. Reusing Fall's database. Need scheduling
software. Have laptop at registration and verify information on-site.
Need scanner for Birth Certificates - Phil to purchase (@ Sam's?).
REGISTRATION AT MCDONALD'S
January 25, 2003 - Jim 9a-11a and bring uniforms, Chris 10a-12p, Amy
9a-1p,
Maria 9a-11a, John 11a-1p
February 8, 2003 - Phil, Ali and Jean 9a - 1p
February 20, 2003 - check availability of coverage at next board
meeting.
Travel League Coordinator: Amy. The Board needs to consider having
some kind of a contract for coaches to sign to understand their
responsibility and their limit of power. An example of an item needing
to be addressed regards player movements. The coach needs to inform
Board members of any type of player movement before it occurs.
Need a Travel article for the Rec newsletter - stimulate more interest
in travel. Maria will write one and get to John for publication.
Concession Chairman: Karla's Cafe. Looking forward to another
successful season. Let team parents know about snack packs at team
parent meeting again. Great participation.
Publicity Chairman: John. Running ads in Daily Reporter 1/18, 1/20,
2/1 and 2/3 and the New Pal Press 1/23 and 2/6. Web site is updated
with registration forms and minutes. Photo of Coach Award recipient,
Roger Roberts and his team is great!
Registration Chairman: Position still open. Have a hopeful candidate.
Registration cut-off is February 28, 2003.
Awards/Pictures Chairman: Accepting bids for new photographer. Coaches
appreciated the plaques.
