Board Meeting
February 19, 2003, 7:15 p.m.
The meeting was
called to order by President, Phil Melangton. Present were: Jerry
McClatchey, Karla Kindrick, Ali Basaran, Chris Harrington, Joe
Fistrovich, Janice Kovach, Doug Harvey, Karen Teach and Jean
Aikman.
President: Phil. Mailed registration forms on Saturday, February
8, 2003 to all Fall participant families. Some duplication with
people who have come in to register and receiving some phone
calls regarding this matter.
Vice President: Maria sent in a list of people who are still not
fully paid for travel for Spring. February 28, 2003 is
registration deadline.
Treasurer: Reported Finances. Some bills for advertisements to
pay but not much more owed until uniform bill comes in. Joe will
work with Jerry and Phil on Constitution and By-laws.
Secretary: Jean. E-mailed NPYL’s Constitution and By-laws to
Jerry, Joe and Phil.
Team Rep. Coordinator: Janice. NPE’s cafeteria is reserved for
team rep. meeting on April 8, 2003 at 6:30 p.m.
Coaching Director: Jerry.
Summer Camp – Color brochure is finalized and will be mailed to
all league participants. Deadline is in July – approximately one
week before the July 14-18 camp. The cost is: $74 per player with
a $5.00 discount for additional children in a family ($69).
Times: 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. for Team and 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
for Individuals. Forms have been given out at sign ups. We will
try to advertise this and get players from outside the league to
participate. Jerry will put a brochure up at Indy Indoor.
NPHS Soccer Booster Club met and new high school coach will be
chosen by Spring Break. We want to work with the coach to avoid
overlaps in camps, use of facilities, etc.
Coaches Meeting – March 21, 2003 at 6:00 p.m. at NPE. Meeting
will be in the gym if raining or on soccer fields behind NPE.
Jerry and Ali will have one half meeting for administrative
teaching and one half for skills/drills.
Possible field expansion – A meeting was held by the School
Corporation who invited representatives from all sports
interested (soccer, baseball/softball and football) to help with
the proposed use of the 65 acres owned by the School Corporation
behind Doe Creek. Jerry and Phil attended and gave a proposal for
a 400 member soccer league.
The school corporation has already built a restroom facility and
concession stand by the JV baseball fields. We are checking into
using them for our concession and having bathroom facilities
available during weeknight and Saturday games beginning in the
Spring season. There are also 10 acres off of Bitner Road that is
owned by the town and school. We can possibly expand in that
direction also.
Registrar: Karen. IYSA is changing rates for Fall, 2003. The
league will be charged by an increase per child charge and not
per team.
Referee Assignor: No report.
Uniform Committee Chairman: Rec. Jim. - T-shirts to sell will be
ordered at the same time as uniforms for Spring to increase the
discount given for quantity ordered. Charge to league will be
$10.00. Order 150 grey t-shirts with red NPUnited logo 10 AXXL,
50 AXL, 40 AL, 25 AM and 25 YL. These will be available for sale
at the concession stand during the season.
Field Maintenance: Chris. Need some new nets. Jerry and Chris to
sort out what is available, needed and get ordered. Only a one
week order time. Chris is open to suggestions to get parents
involved in the painting. Big pitch to the parents at the coaches
meeting and the team parent meeting. Clarify responsibility and
process. Painting will be done on Thursday or Friday only. This
is especially important in the Spring because it rains more
often, the grass grows faster and needs cut more often. THE
LEAGUE WOULD LIKE ASSISTANCE IN GETTING THE GRASS CUT IN BETWEEN
THE CUTTINGS THAT THE SCHOOL DOES. We will purchase a small
Rubbermaid storage bin for the U6 fields to keep their own paint
in. Need two new paint rollers and more paint. Chris and Phil to
get with Jerry on purchases. The school seeded, aerated,
fertilized. We need extra fertilizer and seed in front of the
goals.
Rec. League Coordinator: Ali. Registration numbers are still down
from Fall registration with only tomorrow night’s registration
left. Hoping for a good response from the mailing. If we don’t
have the same number of teams, the league will pick up the cost
on uniforms needed to get teams set.
REGISTRATION AT MCDONALD’S: February 20, 2003, 6-8 p.m. – Ali,
Jerry and Maria to work.
On-line registration was tabled for now. Not enough interest at
this time. May need a new registration site. Too many patrons at
McDonalds and not enough room for our use.
Travel League Coordinator: No report at this time.
Concession Chairman: Karla’s Cafe. No report at this time.
Publicity Chairman: John. Advertisements have run in Daily
Reporter 1/18, 1/20, 2/1 and 2/3 and the New Pal Press 1/23 and
2/6. Web site is updated with registration forms and minutes.
Phil will look into a cell phone for league use. We would have an
outgoing message for people to hear about rainouts.
Registration Chairman: Position still open. Registration cut-off
is February 28, 2003.
Awards/Pictures Chairman: Doug Discussed several photographers’
bids and decided to go with Ray Yeager and The Sports Section.
His bid included 2 photographers, 3 assistants and a plaque for
each team’s coach. Phil will call to negotiate additional
contract terms and award the bid. Picture day is April 19, 2003.
Pictures should be delivered by May 10.
Meeting adjourned by President Phil Melangton.
Next meeting will be March 19, 2003, 7:15 p.m. at Zion.
